Flea Bites on Humans
Flea bites are extremely painful; a person who was bitten by flea may
suffer allergic reactions that may cause skin problems.
Flea bite leaves
a red bumps on your skin, it is sometimes in a form of itchy rashes. If
the bitten area is scratched, some bleeding may occur. You might notice
a single puncture point in the center of each spot; this may result to
swelling if untreated.
Most flea bites normally occur on legs, ankles, neck and waist. Some
people may have different reaction to flea bites. The most affected
people are those who have sensitive skin. But before you seek medical
attention, consider the following remedies;
- First, wash the affected area with soap or antiseptic. Use cold
water to reduce the
itch.
- Apply a cold pack over the bites to avoid swelling.
- Do not scratch the affected area, this may result to open wounds
and other skin
infections.
- Apply a steroid cream or at least 1% hydrocortisone cream. This
is readily
available in any pharmacy near you. Hydrocortisone helps reduce
inflammation.
- Take an oral dose of antihistamine; they are very effective in
relieving itch.
Flea bites on Animals
Fleas spend most of their time on pet animals. Flea bites on animals
causes itching. Most animals infested by fleas are seen scratching their
body the whole time. Flea bites on animals usually occurs on thighs,
legs, behind the ears and belly. Fleas usually settle on dogs and cats,
but almost all warm blooded vertebrates are the target of flea bites.
The most modern and effective way of preventing flea bites on animals is
to use a prescription medication that is usually taken orally or applied
directly on the affected area. These medication effectively kill the
flea population in few hours and will prevent its life cycle to
continue.
